Black Hornet Ninja Gear Folding Grappling Hook

I'm using this for pulling widow maker branches out of my mulberry trees that are old, and like others pulling leaves and branches from the flood tiles on my creeks.Might rappel a sink whole I've been eyeballing.Thanks Budk for another useful tool.

I use it to clear out limbs and other objects out of the pond behind the house. Everything seems to drift my way, but this makes for easy clean up.

Brought one with me overseas. Toss it and drag back to look for tripwires or pull stuff down. I do not suggest climbing with it though. Mine became useless after doing so, it bent really bad at the drilled pivot points on the flanges. Does not support 250lbs at all, but I imagine the rope holds much more. I'm trying to get a blacksmith to use stiffer iron/steel with same design to fix mine.

cant exacly test this dont have any trees to test it how ever the qualty of it seems durible and easy to use and transport.

Extremely effective, and easy to use! Make sure to practice (trees are good: Throw to the top, climb tree with Grappling Hook's assistance, retrieve and drop hook to the ground, climb down with gravity's assistance). Rope gives way some what, so learn how much it will give. You may need to tie knots in the line or wear gloves if you have difficulty with this as well!

This item came in very useful for climbing trees and up the side of a garage for a certain grandson.

This is an amazing buy, useful beyond what i had firstly intend, the rope is nearly impossible to climb i had to switch it out with a lighter rope with more friction to latch onto but other than that i weigh 180 pound, i bent one hook from missing a throw like said below but i could bend it back with some tools from my shed

Just arrived today. Ordered two days ago. Awesome turn around.<br /><br />Took me a minute to figure out how to lock the hooks in place, but once I did, it's super easy. It will take you about 15 seconds to fully lock/unlock the hook, more time if you are planning on being stealthy. Rope is, as stated, not as long as a lot of people would like, but then again, if you are trying to climb a ten story building, why not just use the elevator?<br /><br />All in all, an awesome product.

Great weight to it, perfect for scaling buildings. Have already scaled multiple buildings and can definitely hold you, have had this for 2 years. The rope is great and has lasted this long with absolutely no problems. I did bend one of the claws because I missed the roof of a building and it came down 50 feet onto concrete. It just barely bent, extremely impressed with this product.

What is there to say its a grappling hook its just amazing I already climb bout 7 trees though I suggest that you have some kinda gloves that have grip on them cause it hurts like hell trying to climb without them though it would be easier if I had the hand and foot spikes for climbing....

Great product people say the rope isn't long enough but I wouldn't be real comfortable climbing higher than 33' up with this thing since if you throw it up on something to climb up you can't inspect if its secure on the account that you are on the ground still. I would really suck if your half way up the rope and it came loose and smacked you in the face.

If youre in training, if its rock climbing, moonlighting, or even your occasional ninja fights, this is a must have!<br /><br /> fits in your back-pack just by collapsing it!, I would buy a diffrent rope though this wasnt long enough.

I have not used this item yet. but i will say it came in a box and it is light weight esay to use as well.the rope is very long and very strong. i recomend this if its somthing u just wanna play with. also very easy to fold and use!

I'm no ninja. I bought mine for tree work. It does a great job pulling branches when pruning trees and briars. Also good for securing a ladder from the ground.

The solid steel portions of the hook are sturdy. The top nut was put on with an adhesive, like Locktite, which kept it in place very well. The hook cross member closest to the cap nut is threaded, which makes it far more stable. The other cross member floats free. The spring should be on the other side of the floating hook to push it up into the threaded hook, and the threaded hook should be thread-locked to the cap nut. When this is done, the hook can be collapsed and returned to service quickly. The way the picture shows it assembled on the box and the way it came leaves no reason for including the spring. By butting the cross member against the cap nut, the number of load-bearing threads are doubled. The rope included is fairly high quality, but I would upgrade to a more secure knot before risking suspending myself from it. The weight is very good for short-to-medium distance throws.

My first BudK purchase and my first throwing weapon. Climbing a thin rope is a special skill requiring long practice and some serious upper body strength. One of the great feats of strength of a life full of such machismo is the time I climbed this bad boy 15' up the side of a dam casement. Knot the rope at 18" intervals. This will reduce the length of the rope by about 20% but is very necessary for ascents/descents. Throwing this thing is another special skill set. The rope is extremely strong the grappling hook is fun to play around with but the top piece that keeps the grappling hook in place came off mine within twenty minutes of having it but is easily replaced and the medal does bend after a while but is easy to bend back so all in all a good buy

This is an essential tool for all who collect ninja gear. The nylon rope is strong and much longer than i expected (good). The hook itself is also very strong and although i have used it extensively, it has not cracked, bent, or chipped. The reason i only gave it four stars is because of the "folding" part of it. Sometimes when you miss a branch or pull the hook down and it hits the ground, it will loosen up and fold. I didnt like that because I frequently had to tighten it back up again before throwing it. TIE YOUR OWN KNOTS. AND MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. pretty sturdy. tie a knot in the rope every foot or so to ease the climbing. shipping was FAST. do A LOT of stress tests low to the ground first!!

Very reliable product, except when you hit the tip of it on a hard surface to much and it snaps.

This is a great item! You just need to be a good thrower. You have to throw it as straight as you can because this thing goes far. The only thing that i didn't like was that the rope was too thin. And like the other reviews mention, this really hurts your hands. Hopefully this website can began to offer some special gloves to use with the grappling hook. (And no, i don't mean the spike gloves.) If you buy this item, ask about offering some special gloves. Maybe if they see that a lot of people want/need them, maybe they will begin to offer them. Anyway I recommend this product to EVERYBODY!!!

Nice overall with a good price and miltiple uses for example I used it for pulling sleds and other things but make sure you are not too hard on it.<br />First, the the storing mechanism got broken off within a week. Also, after a few especially hard yanks while I was pulling sleds, it started to bend and eventually the entire top came of (I dont mean the rope un-knoted, i mean the only meatal part left was the ring) but i cant blame it from breaking because of how i used it so even though it CAN be used as somthing else doesnt mean it should...<br />Even though i got it broken, I still think it was a great buy and if i had used it properly, it would have lasted me more than 4 months.

Best way to use the rope is fold in half and knot about every 18 inches, then you essentially have a rope "loop" ladder that almost anyone can climb by inserting a foot in the loops. Buy longer rope if you need more length. Be sure the spring is on top of the grapple, it came assembled backwards.

Doesn't fold down as well as I thought it would, has the tendency to bend if hooked at odd angle. The rope is difficult to climb, I would recommend a pair of gloves but even then it is challenging. Missed my target and broke the top bolt when it landed. Looks cool, you'll gain instant respect with your friends until you try to use it for climbing and end up looking like a wuss. Great for other practical purposes. I'm sure you can be creative and make many opportunities to use it elsewhere.

"Ninja Folding Grappling Hook", a Mix of cons and pros.<br />ATTN: I used the rope in a real situation, read on.<br /><br />CON: Right out of the package, the black nylon rope tied to the hook has a laughable knot, a very serious danger to climbers. This was probably the most misshapen and flimsy knot I've seen. To even attempt to climb may damage your cord or it may slip and leave you with a nice 30 ft free fall. (NOTE: Luckily for me, I tie professional rope-ring knots. I used a variation of the "Cat's Paw". Except I made double circles for extra grip and less chance of slip.)<br /><br />PRO: After I did my knot I tried the storing mechanism, It's genius how easy it is making it a little too simple but that's not a problem for this "Folding" ninja hook.<br /><br />PRO/CON: The infamous nylon rope, the pro is that it's tough as hell and weather resistant. The CON is that your gonna need to use some thick gloves with good grip cause not only is it tough on your hands (NOTE: Lost skin while trying to climb and even throwing it a good 25 ft up.) but THE ROPE IS SKINNY thus confirming some of the other reviews on this site.<br /><br />Con: If the hook fails to grab on to something and you tug on it making it come down (NOTE: Remember, I threw it to a good 25 ft) be prepared for it to come crashing down. Mine fell many times and hard hits have actually bent my hook not to the point of uselessness but enough degrees to notice that this piece of carbon steel isn't strong enough for high throws or hard landings. I didn't like to see my hook like this so I would attempt to catch it every so often, I took a numbing hit to my arm and it even made sparks as it landed on the floor another time. (NOTE: My storing mechanism it stuck now, It can't be folded anymore which is fine for me actually.)<br /><br />Total Score, 3 out of 5 or 6 out of 10. <br />It's a good and cheap climbing tool, buy it, check your knot, get <br />good gloves, and your set for some climbing.
