I use a cane and have several in my collection. Because the design of this cane is unobtrusive and attracts little attention it's my "every day carry". .The construction is sturdy, the handle has a hard point and the sword point is sharp.. Hopefully not, but in a confrontation the cane iis an effective club a the sword isa formidable thrusting weapon. I am very pleased with my purchase.

At this price point, this is the best value in a sword cane I have found after looking for many years. People that think the blade needs to be sharpened are missing the point (heh-heh); this is a thrusting weapon. As such, the handle design is off a bit. You cannot hold it by the cross-handle, no point control. You cannot hold it by the shaft area, if you hit something solid your hand will slide down onto the blade. Hence, you need to hold it by both areas, at the junction. BUT there is a 'lip' that stops you from getting a good grip. Filing that off makes for a perfect/strong grip with good point and blade control. See pic. I say this as a fencer of many years. Use the point, do not slash away at your opponent. That would be pointless. Also, I'm 6" tall, I cut 2" off for aperfect fit.

I'm really impressed with the quality and simplicity of this cane sword, Don't this you will miss a release button on this cane sword, you don't need it, it stay in the Scabbard/cane shaft very well, it takes a bit of a pull to get the sword out of the Scabbard/cane holder. Its not going to come loose and shake out of the Scabbard/cane. it works very well for me as a stable walking cane as it is, Yes its a little bit haevey but that because the blade of the sword is indeed haevy duty,. Just a great cane sword for the money.

I've painted the shaft because it's very recognized now. The handle and blade are full tang, comfortable and the edge can be sharpened with a stone. It will hold up to swinging, has a leaf point, stainless blade needing minimal care and oiling. You can't find better for the price.

I was diagnosed with MS several months ago. It's hitting aggressive. Tearing me apart. I needed a cane. Got the Night Watchman... 1) It needs to be sharpened. The tip is fine. The steel is strong, yet springy. Put an edge on it. 2) The shaft is excellent. But could use a bit more grip. I coated it with epoxy, then coiled it with paracord. 3) A bit of blade-rattle. This is easily solved by cutting some sponge rubber into 1"x1" squares. Shove them down the shaft. No complaints. I got what I paid for. If I have to use a cane, may as well have the best.

Had surgery and needed a cane. Decided to try something not traditional. It is heavier than a typical cane but not by much. It is very discreet in appearance so it does not attract attention. I had to cut it a bit to get the right height and that was easily done. It does not”click” while using. The blade is fairly sharp out of the box. I didn’t sharpen it more because it is good for its intended use. I have recommended it to others. Great buy

Incredibly pleased with this sword cane. Very heavy duty and just this fact it makes for great self-defense within itself. Being carried every day since purchase, it has been wearing very well despite being dropped, scrapped on concrete steps, etc... It did get a rattle, but a few pieces of packing foam pushed down in the bottom has stopped the rattle; easy fix.

Mar 09, 2022

I bought this cane a few years ago without the option of it being engraved, which is not a problem. My question is if I can buy replacement O-rings for it because the ones that came with it need to be replaced. Everything else is still in good condition but the O-rings.

Feb 26, 2022

I use this as my daily cane, and its solid support. Many sword canes are more just toys with a loose joint. Its appearance looks like a regular cane, so you can take it anywhere without looking suspicious. If I were ever in need of the blade, its a sturdy and long blade, I would use as a foil more than a broad sword. Very well made for the price.

Nov 30, 2021

perfectly honest i'm 6'7" and a large man i'v had two canes break on me. this thing works so much better than even the one my Dr. gave me.

Nov 03, 2021

The product seems sturdy however the blade is dull and the cane shaft could have been made with a shealth inside the shaft to stop the raddling of the blade.

This is an excellent sword cane. Very very strong, very well-built.Very strong. I have other sword canes, that rattle when I walk,my more expensive cane sword cannot compare to this night watchman. I ordered 2 Night watchman sword canes ,one for my uncle and one for myself. The engraving is meticulously done.I am a very satisfied customer. Excellent Company and very excellent customer service at True Swords . I am very happy that I found True Swords after a bad experience I had with another company, that tried to rob me when I placed an order for 2 night watchman sword canes.I waited almost 2 weeks for my order and I never received my order., I finally got my money back from that other company, it took almost 3 weeks.True Swords will be the only ones to get my business, honest, reliable, fast shipping.True Swords you folks are the best, ahead of all the rest. Mahalo and Aloha Robert

Liked that it's solid, heavy duty. Great as a club! Which is good because it's as sharp as a butter knife.

Jun 12, 2021

Okay, I really like the design of this cane. It feels really sturdy, quite hefty. But it's not without a few flaws, but fixable. For one, it's not for short people, and they really should find a way for customers to customize the height of this thing. For the sake of convenience. Another thing is, though it doesn't rattle as you walk with it, any small bump to the side of the cane causes the blade to clang against the inside, which is very noticeable. I fixed it by putting in a cardboard tube to about half of the shaft from the bottom, which keeps it from making that metal on metal sound. Then the blade is kind of wiggles a bit, not much, but it's a screw issue. One of them at the top seems loose, might need replaced, but that's no real issue also. Even further, drawing this thing is a pain because the O rings keep a tight seal, which causes air suction while drawing, which requires a hole in the cane tip on the bottom. Makes it a lot easier to draw, and doesn't make it any easier to fall out accidently. But you don't get that popping sound, nor need to fight against air pressure to draw the blade. Other than that, it's a really nice product. Feels really solid, and it's not obvious to anyone that it might have a blade unless they already know what this particular cane is and what it looks like. It's really balanced, and once I sharpen the blade, I'm sure it'll cut pretty well. It does even with it as dull as it is upon shipping, just not so well. I'd recommend this to anyone concerned about personal defense without being conspicuous to the casual onlooker. And as stated by many, cane sword are mostly illegal to carry in most states, and you can't even own one in others. Always check with your local county, and state laws before buying, but the risk seems pretty low versus the reward.

May 21, 2021

Cane is fantastic, only problem is, it is very hard to draw. Need to find a way to relieve some of the pressure to draw easier.

Jan 20, 2021

The cane arrived ahead of time. I was surprised by the thickness of the aluminum tube. It is much thicker and stronger than I expected. I am very happy with it. The cane has enough mass and strength to defend yourself without even using the sword. My only difficulty was in shortening the cane to fit my height. My tube cutter was not up to the task for something this thick. I had to get a PIPE cutter to do the job. I was able to do the job quickly and cleanly and replaced the rubber tip with one from Amazon, though you can probable find one at your local drug store. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this item.

Jan 18, 2021

I was reluctant to purchase thinking that this cane was not going to be useful and only for show and tell, but I was wrong. This company is probable one of rare companies that tell the truth. The cane is sturdy and the blade is for real, (I'm not a blade expert). I am going to purchase another for my brother on his birthday.

Jan 13, 2021

Many so called sword canes are really nothing more than letter openers hidden inside a wood cane. In my experiance those products do not even work well as canes let alone swords. The night watchman sword cane is very different. First the blade is made of hardened high carbon steel. On one edge it is sharpened from the handle to the tip. On the back side I has an edge that runs from the tip to a point about half way up the blade. The long edge is sharpened, though to to a high degree. It certainly can cut, but it can be improved with more work on that edge. The false edge on the top of the blade is not sharp. Clearly it can be sharpened as it is hardened, but in my view it is not sharp from the factory. The blade itself is 3/16” thick at the handle and it tapers evenly to a point. The blade is held to the handle with star fasteners. I really like this feature as should the blade loosen over time it can easily be tightened. The handle is made of “grivory” which is a reinforced polymer that is really durable. There is a hard rubber tip on the cane which could be replaced with a better, softer rubber tip. The cane itself is a hollow aluminum tube nominally 1” across the top with a wall thickness of nominally 1/8”. There is one note I would make that others have also comment on. As it comes from the factory the sword is very hard to draw from the cane. There are three rubber “O” rings on the handle that hold the sword in the cane and prevent it from coming out unintentionally. These rings do hold the sword in place very effectively. Perhaps too effectively, as older users of diminished strength will certainly have difficulty drawing the sword when they need it. My though on this would be to remove the two lower rubber rings leaving only the one at the very top of the sword in place. Inside the aluminum tube there is a groove cut i the tube to engage the rubber rings. You can feel this when you remove or insert the blade. I believe that one of these rings is sufficient to hold the sword in place and if two of the rings are removed drawing the sword should be a lot easier. Overall this is one of the best most serious examples of a sword cane you can buy today. The only sword cane that appears to be of similar design and price is the cold steel heavy duty sword case. But those are almost impossible to find in stock even directly from cold steel. One of the things that makes this particular cane a good choice is that it looks like a cane. There is nothing that reveals that it holds a sword hidden inside. This brings me to my last point. Sword canes are not legal to carry in public in all but one state. That state is Arizona. In many other states like California and New York sword canes are illegal to possess at all. So if you buy one of these for street carry(and I am not recommending anyone one do that) be aware of your local laws. If you are in the market for a sword cane that is a real self defense tool this will serve you well

I found the sword cane to live up to it’s very high 5 star ranking. I did need to make adjustments to fit my 5’ 91/2” frame better however. At 37” overall, it was too long for me but it’s easy to make changes. First, run hot water over the rubber/plastic tip for about 5 mins and pop it off, Remove the hard foam strip inside the cane that the sword tip sits in. I removed 2 1/2” of the aluminum cane using a pipe cutter—a hacksaw would also do the job—I snipped off 1” of the hard foam insert and slide it back inside. I had some good quality 1” rubber cane tips (from Amazon)for another cane I have and replaced the tip that came with the cane. At 34 1/2” overall length, the cane now fits me perfectly and there is no rattling. One other thing, if you live in an area with cold fall/winter temperatures like I do, wrapping the top 3” of the cane with electrician tape keeps your finger(s) off the cold metal. I am not mechanically gifted, so if it’s easy for me to make these changes, anyone can do it—imo, this is the best sword cane on the market

This is a great quality product. For everyone who says about the rattling. I stuffed a rolled up piece of toilet paper in the bottom. Stopped the rattling. Inoy compliant i had

Foot is a little slippery and I hoping it breaks in over time or i will just get a softer one. Slight molding line on the handle that needed a very light filing down for comfort. Needs effort to pull the blade out because the o rings really grab. Blade is outstanding. Edge is fine for a sword and was well oiled 1060, not a stainless letter opener. Buy, buy, buy.

Feb 12, 2020

This a great deal it is a real cane very stable and strong It not sharp but are swords should be It is well worth the money

At first I was sceptical. When I removed it from the box I thought there is now way this blade will cut well. It has a pronounced secondary bevel and is almost to heavy in the grip. Boy was I wrong. This blade blew right through the box it came in as if it weren't even there. The edges of the cut are some what rough but, none the less it passed through unweighted, heavy card board with zero, and I mean zero resistance. Berry well done. I am extremely impressed. For a thrust oriented blade, make mistake, it will cut just as well.

I don't like spending money on myself, but I've needed a cane for few years. Being a big guy, normal canes wear out quickly. I've never spent this much on a cane or sword for myself before, but I took a chance. I have held off writing a review until I was sure. First off, like everyone else has said, the very first thing you'll want to do is replace the "rubber" foot. (Seriously, why would you put that plastic cap on it when for a dollar, it can be usable???) I find the handle comfortable and easy to grip. The blade was fairly sharp. It does rattle some, but there are many ways to fix that, or just simply always walking with the came parallel to your body stops it. (The blade only rattles when your weight presses side to side.) Now people... I have beat the crap out of this cane. I've dropped it down metal grate style stairs. I've taught myself to use it like a staff, and pull the blade out in mid swing. In doing this, I've dropped it on concrete well over 100 times. I've learned to swing the cane around, pull the blade, and slice through a pumpkin. All the while, expecting the blade to loosen or break or bend. It hasn't. I've dinged the aluminum cane part in 100 places, but nothing that can't be sanded and repainted. Keep the O-ring greased and it lasts longer. I bought 6 O-rings for 33 cents each, put them in a little plastic bag and inserted the bag into the bottom of the cane so I'm never with out one. Now that I've beat the holy crap out of this one, I'm saving up for another one that I can use daily. I'm only 5'9" tall, 300 pounds. But this was the perfect height for me, as most canes leave me stooping over a little bit, hurting my back even more. I'm giving it 5 STARS. Even though there are some things that could be better (Come with a spare set of o-rings and a real walking tip maybe?) for this price... i'd give it 6 stars. All that said, there is ONE thing I would like to see different. Because the handle is hard plastic, when you lean it against a counter, or hook it on something, it slides off way to easily. If the handle just hooked down even just a half an inch further, it would change the center of gravity when resting it on things and make it stay in place better. (PS. Almost every blade on my throwing board is a BudK blade.)

This sword cane is the best in my collection as far as actual weapons....many sword canes are nothing more than glorified letter openers.....not the case with this one.....it has an extremely sharp edge and is excellent for hacking as well as thrusting.....sharp on both sides about ten inches from the tip....the blade continues on one side and is solid on the other after that....this solid part can be used stabilize thrusting......the only problem I can foresee is the o-ring that holds the sword part in the cane wearing out.....easily replaced however......if I were going for a walk and really expected shenanigans to occur, this would be the cane I'd reach for........ES

What a self defense weapon also a beautiful cane God help the Villan that tries to mug me with this cane I have he will never know what hit him.

Sep 11, 2019

I'm very Happy with the Night Watchman Cane Sword the quality and sharpness of the Sword is exactly what I expected from such a Fine Company as yours Thank you.

Jun 15, 2019

this is my 3rd one. gave one to my disabled uncle and one to my handicap friend. great to have incase of emergency epically if your in a gun free zone. very sharp also. great quality steel.

Feb 04, 2019

Very sturdy cane. Bought it for that but the additional benefits are welcome. The blade itself is top notch carbon steel and reasonably sharp. I’d hate to ever need it but it’s comforting knowing it’s there.
Feb 04, 2019

I personally did not like sword canes until my wife got this. I must say that the design and feel are much more than I thought a sword cane could offer. I'm a larger person and the cane is comfortable in use and the blade is solid as well. Well done.
Jan 01, 2019

Just what I was looking for! Appears to be a basic cane nothing fancy which is what I wanted. Sturdy- nice blade- Heavy cane. If you just hit someone with the cane it would do serious damage. Good price.
Dec 11, 2018

Nice simple look. Serves the purpose of helping me get up from kneeling on floor/ground when doing work and serves as a great defense weapon with very sturdy hidden sword. One of my early Christmas gifts.
Dec 10, 2018

THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD PIECE OF EQUIPMENT, DON'T LIKE THE RUBBER ON THE BOTTOM, SLIDES ON HARD WOOD FLOOR, WILL BE CUTTING 2 INCHES OFF OF THE BOTTOM TO GET CORRECT HEIGHT. THOUGHT THE BLADE WAS WELL MADE AND HAS 3 SCREWS HOLDING IT ON, WHICH IS GOOD. NOT CHEAPLY MADE, WELL THOUGHT OUT.
Dec 07, 2018

My wife bought this cane for me, I have bad knee and she thought the blade would suit my personality well. The cane is great, and I use it often. The sword arrived with just the "factory edge" but it only took a little cleaning and sharpening to establish a good edge that it holds very well.
Jul 02, 2018

I like the blade very much , I also like the balance, and the handle is perfect for a woman's hand. The item was shipped very promptly, packaged well, and delivered in a timely fashion. Ok, now the other side: the blade is loose in the handle. I can tighten it. The blade is dull. I mean not cut at all dull, with a severe angle grind. I'll have too file it properly, and finish it with a stone. Right now, it's a wicked piercing weapon, with a round false edge. The overall item is very nice, just wish I didn't have to put an actual edge on it
Jun 29, 2018

I have 14 canes, and the Night Watchmen SK5 is arguably the best Sword cane I own. I own more expensive and ornate canes but, for fit and function this one stands out as the one that I really could defend myself with, if needed. At 49" it sets a little more up for the taller person, but at least 2 inches could be cut off the bottom for a custom fit. The cane doesn't require unscrewing like other lessor canes but is held in place by tight fitting "O" rings that are easily replaced when worn. Aluminum shaft is very sturdy and the SK5 Carbon blade could be sharper but is not dull. Full tang construction. Worth the investment as a everyday walking cane!
Jun 25, 2018

I've had mine for a few years, great cane, really has been a help for me since I've been recovering from surgery and just can't do what I used to. Also gives me confidence to still walk where I want despite not being at my physical best. The only problem I've found with mine is just in the rubber o-rings used to seal it in place, but I just went out got some 30 cent ones from a local hardware store, trimmed off a bit and it hasn't come loose with daily use yet. Been a while since I've checked on the blade, but even if mine's got some rust issues so long as you stay up to date on your maintenance I have no doubt the sword will out last the cane.
Mar 26, 2018

Ok, I've had my cane sword now for about two weeks and I can't say that I have anything bad to say about it. The whole thing, from top to bottom and inside and out is really well constructed. While I'm not in the habit of abusing my toys for the fun of it I don't think there is much that can damage this thing unless you're really trying hard to do it. Even then it'll probably hurt you back, it's mean. The blade is nice and long without being too long. In other words, it's got some reach but it's not like swinging a telephone pole. It's sharp although it could be sharper which is an easy fix. The shaft is pretty hefty as well, you could probably beat a horse to death with it though if you tried it on a gorilla it would just really piss him off. I would have prefered the handle to have been a little thicker but seeing how it has to fit in the shaft I see why it's not. To me it's kind of like swinging a car's radio antenna around, all be it an antenna that could slice someone in half. I wish the cane hand grip was a softer rubber like the ones you'd find on a normal Walmart cane, just because it would make walking with it and putting all your weight down more comfortable. Also, I've discovered that you have to be careful and not let the sword fall out. While it holds pretty well holding it upright and shaking it I can't say the same if it's held upside down. In that case, the sword drops out fairly easily and tries to shave off a little knee skin. All things considered, I still give a 5 star but that's because there isn't a spot for 4.8 stars. So unless you want to spend MUCH more on a slightly higher quality cane sword I would recommend that you get this one.
Jan 19, 2018

Love this cane. Great for every day use, easy to draw, rarely makes a sound so it's nice and concealed. The blade is perfect sharp right out of the box. Definitely worth the purchase.
Nov 12, 2017

I love it . I will use it as a cane its very solid. as far as the o rings they are tight and i think they are metric. but that is what silicone is for, not oil. the blade was not as sharp as i was hoping for but that is easy to fix. overall i love it blade is straight, solid and very usable right out of the box.... very happy
Oct 11, 2017

The nightwatchman sk5 cane is awesome! Very sharp blade. Super heavy duty. Only retains by sliding into shaft. Wish it had a retainer of some sort. But when I say heavy duty, I mean heavy period. Far better than expected though
Oct 07, 2017

I received my SK5 yesterday and i'm Well Pleased in the Construction and Usability of the product. I also appreciate the Care Instructions and Catalogs included and the Quick Shipping. As others have stated I am also gonna' have to alter the Length by 2 3/4" to fit my gate. I'm also gonna' drill a small hole into the back of the handle to add a Wrist Strap of some type. I'm 5' 9" tall and weigh 220 lbs. and it's the Sturdiest cane i've ever handled. I'm disabled due to falling through a building and suffering multiple life altering permanant injuries in 1986 and now I need a Good Dependable cane for assistance. And since alot of times in this day & age Elderly and Handicapped people are the targets of attackers it's a Bonus to know you have a little something Extra to Help Defend Yourself.
Sep 22, 2017

The sk5 sword cane came today, solid, sturdy and sharp.I was worried about fit and finish, fits like glove; pulls out of sheath well and fits back solid.Great product, holds my big butt up. Lol
Aug 20, 2017

I felt vulnerable after breaking my ankle, using a can or crutches. I bought the sword cane thinking it would suffice as a mediocre defense against attackers. I underestimated the value of this. Very well made, sharp, and a formidable weapon. I carry it all the time now. Also, In the tube, it's still a substantial defensive club. I'd recommend this to anyone. FYI, In September, TX will allow carrying a sword or long fixed blade legally. Sharpen your skills and be safe.
Jul 20, 2017

Received mine today. Very pleased. Solid construction. Good looking blade with an edge (not razor sharp, but not a butter knife edge like some have said). No blade rattle. Good handle shape. Like I said, I'm pleased. One surprise - the shaft is larger in diameter than I thought it would be. Not a problem, just a surprise. One question - why is the rubber tip glued on? For some of us, replacing the tip is going to be a "first thing to do" action, and a glued on tip is irritating. Also pleased that blade care instructions are included. Don't feel that I need them, but pleased with the thoughtfulness.
Apr 11, 2017

I received the Night Watchman this morning and took it to a commercial mandrel bending company. After telling them of the sword cane's construction, they bobbed the cane and it was 5/8" longer than the sword inside. I replaced the slippery hard rubber tip with a 1" diameter Walker/Commode tip ($6.79 for four tips from Walgreens). These should last a long, long time. I love this sword cane and will be putting more of the original buffer inside the shaft to keep the blade from battering against the inside of the shaft/scabbard. If you keep the neoprene "O" rings lubricated and put WD40 or light machine oil/ gun oil/ Rem-oil on the blade, you can prevent rusting and pitting. (This is the equivalent of 1080 Carbon Steel and it should be treated as such. Maintenance is key. This is a fine Chinese steel blade. Treat it with respect and it should last for many years.
Mar 08, 2017

I have all of the praise for the night watchman and only one of the complaints, which is the plastic foot on the bottom of it. However that was easily remedied along with being able to adjust the height of the cane. BudK customer service said it cannot be shortened but they are not correct. I needed to shorted it by 1.5 inches to be at the proper therapeutic height for me (I'm 5'9"...). While you cannot shorten it from the top because there's a recess there to except the sword, you can cut the bottom of the cane off with a pipe cutter, just above the plastic foot. The sword does not go all the way down to the bottom so here's about 5 inches to work with (measure before you cut!) For once that is cut off you will find a Styrofoam/rubber type of piece that keeps the sword from rattling. Shorten it with scissors by the same amount you shortened the aluminum Shaft. I replaced the plastic foot with a smaller but grippier rubber crutch foot and it's perfect now.

This is the Cane to have without a doubt. This product is a quality made tool to protect and assist. Enough said
Nov 30, 2016

I require the use of a cane to help me walk. Up til a day ago I was using a fold up cane that's supposed to stand on its own and wasn't exactly cheap. I got this because most other canes don't support weights over 250lbs. I weigh about 285lbs and the Night Watchman handles it without any issues. The hidden blade is easy to deploy and is pretty darn sharp and durable. The aluminum shaft is solid and gives the cane that extra heft. My only suggestion would be a better stopper on the base of the cane. It's a very hard rubber which if angled wrong will slip. I definitely would encourage others to buy this if cane functionality is needed as it certainly works as intended. The suction truly keeps the blade hidden until you decide to pull it out. Also I was concerned that the blade would clang around inside the shaft but unless you're trying to get it to make noise it stays quiet. No one will ever know you're carrying a sword!! Perfect function as a cane too!!
Oct 26, 2016

I had my eye on this sword cane for a while, and finally got around to buying one. I just recieved it today, and just got done test cutting with it. At first, I was a little dissapointed with it not being double edged, but after swinging it around and accidentally slicing through a two inch branch, I didn't care. I think the false edge gives the point a little more strength. You can stick this thing through an aluminum can with no problem with no damage to the tip. The cane has such a smooth black finish on it, I didn't want to mess it up beating needlessly on stuff. I was really surprised at how functional it was as a cane. I don't really need a cane, but I do have a bad knee and am gonna need surgery sooner or later. So I'm probably gonna be needing a cane in the near future. I didn't have any problem getting the blade out fast. It makes some funny noises every once in a while. I like the idea of having two weapons in one. There is so much you can do to defend yourself from your attacker having a bludgeon in one hand, and a sword in the other. That sword is lightning fast, and is much tougher than it looks. Do not be worried if there is a little bit of clicking when you wave it. No matter how tightly you screw it, the nylon material is a little flexible but extremely durable. The blade is highly secured with bolts. It really is a much nicer looking product up close than it is on line. United Cutlery really must of paid attention to the reviews of the Cold Steel heavy duty sword cane because they perfected the suction lock with extra O rings. There a lot of complaints with the CS version because the rubber O rings kept breaking. The United version has extra O rings to give lock better support. I'm really really pleased with this, and all the other 2016 products, by United Cutlery! They really have blown my mind with the products they have put out this year. I just purchased that Combat Commander Spartan sword. I have a pretty good feeling about that blade.

I use a cane to walk. This is solidly made. The SK5 (1080 American) blade is strong, fairly sharp out of the box. Once honed it holds an edge until you repeatedly drag it across the inside of an aircraft aluminum shaft. The handle is comfortable, it swings in step perfectly with a reverse pistol grip. The handle won't break and unlike Cold Steel's cane, this uses torx screws and bolts to hold the blade to the handle. Neither the handle nor the shaft like concrete. Be advised if it falls, it will ding, dent, get gouged and react like anything else softer than what it hits. The blade is slow to deploy - period. If you're in a pinch, you've better luck swinging it like a baseball bat. The suction created by the "O" rings keeps the blade very secure. even the bad guy will have a hard time pulling it out. Might buy another just to have for special occasions, but, not as an everyday walking cane.

I have this cane and the Cold Steel sword cane and this is definitely of higher quality. The locking mechanism is really unique and it just looks like a regular cane and works well as one also. It's sturdy as a walking aid and the SK5 blade is devastating! I tested it out on some watermelons and WOW. Don't wait to get yours for sure.

I didn't try to chop down a tree but this cane/sword is well made and I feel more secure.

There is some rattle and the blade is nowhere near "razor-sharp." The tip is a quite sharp point. It does feel solid. The sale price is about right.

This is a nice sword cane, the only problem I have is it did not come with an edge. I could run my hand down the edge with no concern about getting cut, I'm talking duller than a butter knife. For the money they should have sharpened it.

The cane is heavy duty; the handle feels better than it looks. Overall it's a great cane and sword, I just wish the dual edged blades were sharper.

I wanted to give this product 5 stars and i would have if not for two false advertising elements. 1. The blade is not razor sharp, it is factory edge (i.e. not sharp at all). 2. The "rubber" stopper on the bottom is not rubber, if you know what rubber is. It slips and slides like nobody's business. Other than that I have no complaints about this product either as a sword or a cane. Note: You will have to customize it to suit your personal needs. I had to shorten the shaft by four inches using power tools because it was to tall for my height. I had to replace the "rubber" stopper on the bottom with actual rubber. I had to get the blade professionally sharpened by a local smith because obviously china or budk doesn't understand the meaning of razor sharp. And finally I had to tighten the bolts because it was very loose when it arrived. I use this cane everyday due do an injury to my right knee, and of course I am a die hard fan of swords so if you don't mind doing a little bit of work to make this sword cane your own than this is definitely going to be one you will not be disappointed with.

I purchased the Night Watchman sword cane. It is a beautiful cane with a wickedly sharp blade. I found this out while coating the blade. Cut my thumb. Baptized my cane with a little blood. I own one of the Cold Steel canes. The blade and shaft are a good deal heavier with the Cold Steel sword cane but the Night Watchman is made of a better grade of steel. From what I understand the latest generation of cold steel sword canes are made of stainless steel. Not the most durable material for a sword. I'm a martial art master with sixty years in the arts. I head an international organization and I use my sword canes for cutting demos. I need a heavy and durable blade. Likewise approaching seventy years of age I actually need a cane sometime and living in Chicago there is always a possibility that they will have to be deployed for self defense. I feel that this cane will serve better as a thrusting weapon than one for cutting especially in the winter months when an assailant will probably be heavily clothed. Still this is a beautiful and beautiful defense tool. I would certainly recommend it to my student and the members of my organization.

The cane itself seems nice enough pretty solid the handle is nice has a nice point on it but to be honest very disappointed in the blade it's about as sharp as the backside of a butter knife I don't think you could cut anything with it you could probably give someone a nasty bruise but other than that I guess it's okay like I said it's okay but not great
